Hidden Messages

We are constantly sending hidden messages when we speak with our child in any way - either directly, within earshot, or through ways we treat him or her. This section gives examples of such messages given by parents who don't realize what they are doing. The more we are all aware of how we affect our children, the easier it is to raise wealthy children.

Deserving of Quality?

What are the messages we are giving our children through the gifts we give? The special birthday and holiday gifts are one thing. But the everyday gifts convey our true messages. This is one example of how an unintended message was given through a "gift" meant to benefit the child.

Irresponsible ?

Very often out of frustration we pin labels on our children that will affect them the rest of their lives. This is one example of something all of us are tempted to do when frustrated.

Teacher Aide Error

Once your child starts attending preschool or any other outside activity, you have less control over his/her environment. If you have done, and are continuing to do, all you can do to show your child the treasure he or she is, then any potential damage from the "outside" will be lessened. Of course, there will be many benefits, too, from your child's universe being expanded.

On the negative side, unfortunately, even teachers and teachers' aides sometimes, out of frustration and/or ignorance, forget how very powerful their words and actions are.
