What Wealth Attitudes the Main Authority Figure of Your Child Has?
One of your child’s most important authority figure is his or her teacher, even the teacher aide.
Teachers, and especially teacher aides, because of usually being very poorly paid, are, in the majority, ones with financial attitudes which you do not want your child to emulate. Many teachers do, of course, have wealth attitudes as displayed by a comfortable financial life created outside their classroom. But, unfortunately, that is not the norm. The same is true of bosses - they are also perceived as figures of authority. So, when a teacher tells your child that he/she will never amount to anything because he/she doesn't work hard, study, follow directions, respect his/her elders, etc., that is one more hidden message you must neutralize. The key to long term wealth lies in the creativity and the positive self talk of your child. Poor behavior and study habits definitely might delay or even prevent his/her financial success, principally due to having fewer people willing to help him/her, but it definitely will not be a reason for never achieving financial success. Of course, the ideal for a parent is to have the perfect student and the perfect lady or gentleman along with the most creative person in the world, but that isn't always the way it works. So be aware of what teachers are saying to your child, particularly if he or she isn't a good student. Be aware of what YOU are also saying to your child (or thinking) if your child doesn't like to do school work. You, as your child’s most important authority figure, must keep on treasuring your child for who he or she is, and make it clear to your child that you do. Certainly do all you can to help him/her be a good student, but if he/she isn't, continue to let him/her know how valuable he/she is. All kinds of authority figures will predict dire futures in an effort to motivate your child. Don't let their words destroy his/her financial future instead through damaging, hard-to-reverse hidden messages.
